Yarn Bomb

I've been reading a lot of articles and seeing a lot of pins about yarn bombing lately. And I've come to the following conclusion: it is not for me. I will never throw away my time, money, or yarn for an endeavor such as this. Maybe it is because I spend a lot of money on my yarn and its a quality product. I love my yarn too much to abandon it outside for the elements to wreak havoc on it. (I am also the person who shakes her head at electric pole monuments to dead people.) I prefer to make an awesome gift for a loved one and see them wear it. That's my idea of a yarn bomb. But, to yarn bomb? It would break my heart to see my hard work diminish over time or become the target of vandals. What are your thoughts?

New Book

Hip hip hooray for clearance books! The one on the cover? OMG. It takes 150 yards and I have a perfect yarn from Miss Haizle that this will look awesome in! Bonus!

Failure, of sorts.

I started this great hat yesterday. It's called the Nola Cloche. Has this really cool brim with a twist, blah blah blah. Today, however, I had to admit defeat. The cable finally worked, but then I got to the Kitchener stitch at the end and realized that I messed up, restarted, tried again, messed up, tried again, cursed and unraveled the whole thing and threw the pattern away. Seriously. I know I can do it, but dropping a stitch 3 times and having to go back fix and start over really pissed me off. And who am I kidding? I'd look stupid in the hat. (Pictured below is the brim at the halfway point before the cable.)

Tonka

I love him more than yarn.

Yarn Love

The first yarn pictured is one I fell in love with on etsy. Marigoldjen is the name of the shop. I tried to find other yarn that would match so I could make the Range Wrap I've been waiting to start on. Then it came to me! Ask Jen. The second and third pictures are the yarns she dyed for me so I could make the wrap with a consistent yarn and texture. She dyed the yarn the next day. I believe I might be in love with her. And wrap? It's going to be so freaking awesome!

Hat Love

I finished two hats today. The Sockhead Hat (with Miss Maya modeling) and the New Sweetie Pie Hat by purl soho.com. Love love love them both. The slouchy hat was a big hit with the kids (Maya absconded with it as soon as it came off my needles) and the blue hat has the cutest little baby cables. It was a good day.

Progress

I'm making progress on my hats. This first one I started yesterday in a different color way and decided against it. Here's the new color. It's malabrigo's newest yarn called rastita. I love the subtle color because it allows you to see the itty bitty cables. The second hat is my sock head hat in liberty wool. Almost done! It's a slouchy hat--that's why it looks weird. Maya has her eye on it... She'll probably get it, even though she could make it herself. :)

Wingspan Progress

I managed to get my wingspan shawlette half way done. Tomorrow, I'll probably work on a sweater. For now? I'm going to bed early because it's been a crazy week.

Met my goals

I had three crafting goals for the weekend: finish the back of my cardigan, finish the third skein of yarn on my vest, and finish the third triangle on my Wingspan. Yay me! It feels great to meet my goals because I can go to bed and not lay there thinking about what I still have to do. Now to delicately get Andrew to roll over so he'll stop snoring and I can get some sleep.

More of my adventure...

After the Faire, I took a stroll through the Arcade and then had an awesome lunch at "noodlecat." I almost spent the whole day downtown, but decided that it was pretty cool that I got to cross a few things off my Cleveland to do list and headed home. I'll be back noodlecat!!!

Cleveland Mini Maker Faire

I always had a crush on the magazine "Craft." The mag is now defunct, but the original magazine "Make," is still published. They have Maker's Faires all over the US and today it came to Cleveland. It was held at the library downtown. I took a couple mini classes and signed up for the Cleveland Timeshare that barters services. I made this cool bracelet and a wooden bookmark with my name on it. The final picture was my take on the first bracelet only flattened. It was a nice day out!

I'm 25% of the way finished! Looking lovely.

Didn't buy it!

But I'm thinking about it. I. Love. Frank. Lloyd. Wright. And this screams his style. (I really should have been born in the 1920's Arts and Crafts period.). I already have the perfect madelinetosh yarns picked out to match my Lucy hat!!!!

Shawls

I've become slightly drawn to shawls. These are the two I purchased this week. The first one is called "Range" and I saw it at Knitter's Fantasy and HAD to have it. I've chosen heather grey and the main color with teal and lime as the accent colors. (There's a three color version in the pattern). It is going to ROCK! The second shawl pictured is one mom and I saw (and drooled over) at The Yarn Shop in Columbus, Ohio. I got an email from another yarn shop today offering it as a KAL and decided that it must be fate so I bought it. Now to decide on what 900 yards of fingering weight yarn to buy....

Wingspan progress

I love this super simple shawlette. I have to force myself to stop and go to bed. The real problem is that I'm so busy working outside on the yard and flower beds that by the time I get inside I don't have a lot of time to knit. I wish it would just rain so I could stay inside and not feel like I have to be working outside. BUT, the yard looks awesome and the effort I make now frees up my summer.

Maya

Miss Maya Smith came with us to Knitter's Fantasy and was thrilled to find this yarn named after her. So thrilled that she bought it!!

I did, however, find lovely yarns.

This are my only 2 purchases today. A lovely sparkly green/blue/white yarn called "Cleveland Spring" and my favorite Misti Alpaca in "Birds of Paradise." I'm making a lovely shawlette in the Cleveland yarn and a linen stitch scarf in the Alpaca. Tonight, however, I'm going to bed because I can hardly keep my eyes open after 13 hours away from home. XO

Knitter's Fantasy in Youngstown, Ohio

Here's the results of my two classes I took. The first two pictures are from my double knitting class.the same swatch is shown, just both sides so you can see how the pattern reverses itself. The bottom pic is brioche knitting. Not my cup of tea. I became hysterical halfway through the class and could not stop laughing at horrible it was. This is the kind of knitting where if you make a mistake, you are soooooo screwed. And I made enough mistakes to pack up and leave early.

Dogs rule!

This picture makes me smile--and I don't even know anyone in the shot. Puppies rock!

April 4, 2013

Today was a busy day! Mulched three flower beds, finished the 2 skein on my vest, started a hat and started the Wingspan shawlette. And now, under heavy pain drugs, spasm meds and sleeping pills--I'm hoping when I wake up tomorrow I will no longer feel like a ran a marathon in high heels.

Newest hat pattern

Here's my next hat! I may love it as much as my Lucy!!

Finished projects!

Home from my visit to Columbus and I managed to finished the scarf and Big Ben!!

Monday, April 1, 2013

Gosh!

I'm at that point in this scarf where I wish someone would steal the yarn so I could just be finished. We've all been there. But I keep pushing forward and praying that today is the day it is finished. Ok, maybe tomorrow.
